A model is reduced to a picture by systematic transformation through several coordinate systems. The user's coordinate system, commonly called world space is the highest level, while the device space is the lowest.

This space contains the portion of the scene is transformed into image space by the camera transform.
It is normally left to the user to specify the bounds on this space.
